چکیده

Non-fermenters are aerobic non-spore forming Gram-negative bacilli that either incapable of catabolized carbohydrates as a source of energy or degrade them via oxidative rather than fermentative metabolic pathways. In the group of non-fermenters Pseudomonas aeruginosa is eminent pathogen followed by Acinetobacter baumanni. Both of these organisms are reported for their intrinsic resistance against antibiotics and their ability to acquire gens that encode resistance. Resistant against quinolones like ciprofloxacin is common against Gram’s negative non-fermenters. For most of the mechanism of resistant in both of these organisms against quinolone, is the production of aminoglycoside modifying enzymes, mutations in topoisomerases, up-regulation of efflux pumps and presence of plasmid mediated qnr genes. In this study, during the study period total 94 non-fermenters were isolated from 378 numbers of different clinical specimens. Out of 94; 21 isolates were found resistant against quinolone antibiotics like ciprofloxacin-5 μg, levofloxacin-5 μg , norfloxacin-10 μg, which were subjected for PCR studies to detect resistant genes, only five (23.81%) isolates were found to be associated with aac(6’)-lb-cr and two (9.52%) were found positive for carrying qnrD gense as additional with aac(6’)-lb-cr genes. Organisms that processed qnrD and aac(6’)-lb-cr gens were, Pseudomona aeruginosa, Acinetobacter baumanni , Alcaligenes faecalis , Acinetobacter calcoaceticus, and Pseudomonas sp. Key word: Non-fermenters, Quinolone resistant, PCR studies, QNR, aac(6’)-Ib-cr.

Prevalence of qnr and aac(6’)-Ib-cr Genes in Clinical Isolates of Klebsiella Pneumoniae from Imam Hussein Hospital in Tehran

Background: Plasmid mediated quinolone resistance (PMQR) has been shown to play an important role in resistance not only to quinolones, but also β-lactams and aminoglycosides. In fact, qnr genes are frequently carried along with β-lactamase determinants on the same plasmids. We studied the prevalence of qnrA, qnrB, qnrS and aac(6’)-Ib-cr genes among quinolone and cephalosporin resistant clinica...

Objective(s): Plasmid-mediated quinolone resistance (PMQR) determinants and integrons have a considerable contribution to bacterial drug resistance in Gram-negative pathogens. We studied the prevalence of PMQR genes and integron carriage in multidrug-resistant community isolates of Klebsiella spp.Materials and Methods: Two hundred and fi...

Quinolone Susceptibility and Detection of qnr and aac(6’)-Ib-cr Genes in Community Isolates of Klebsiella pneumoniae

BACKGROUND Plasmid-mediated quinolone resistance genes (PMQR) have been shown to play not only an important role in quinolone resistance, but also resistance to other antibiotics, particularly β-lactams and aminoglycosides. These genes are mainly associated with clinical isolates of Enterobacteriaceae. However, detection of PMQR genes in the community isolates can increase the dissemination rat...

The first report of the qnrB19, qnrS1 and aac(6´)-Ib-cr genes in urinary isolates of ciprofloxacin-resistant Escherichia coli in Brazil.

In this study, we investigated the presence of plasmid-mediated quinolone resistance (PMQR) genes among 101 ciprofloxacin-resistant urinary Escherichia coli isolates and searched for mutations in the quinolone-resistance-determining regions (QRDRs) of the DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV genes in PMQR-carrying isolates. Eight isolates harboured the qnr and aac(6')-Ib-cr genes (3 qnrS1, 1 qnrB19 ...

Plasmid-mediated quinolone resistance determinants qnr and aac(6')-Ib-cr in extended-spectrum beta-lactamase-producing Escherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae in China.

OBJECTIVES To characterize the prevalence of plasmid-mediated quinolone resistance determinants qnr and aac(6')-Ib-cr in extended-spectrum beta-lactamase (ESBL)-producing Escherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae. METHODS qnrA, qnrB, qnrS, aac(6')-Ib-cr and ESBL-encoding genes were detected by PCR. MICs of 10 antimicrobial agents were determined by Etest. PFGE was used to investigate the clo...
